Mevlana Rumi

Lately when I’m upset I look up inspirational quotes on twitter… I’m not very well read so I rely on the internet to provide quick access to comfort. I came across Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, a 13th century Persian Muslim poet. I should probably go and find a proper book of his poems but from what I’ve seen scattered around the Internet, here are a few of my favorites.

mevlana_rumi“Your task is not to seek love, but merely to seek & find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

“No mirror ever became iron again;
No bread ever became wheat;
No ripened grape ever became sour fruit.
Mature yourself and be secure from a change for the worse.
Become the light.”

“Looking up gives light, although at first it makes you dizzy.”

“When you feel sorrow beg forgiveness friend
He’s sent grief as a means to good end!
Your pain he’ll turn to joy.”

“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”

“Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you truly love.
